Hardwoods in the Bath
With the advent of so many special finishes, hardwoods can now have a more prominent place in the bath.
Whether it’s beautiful hardwood floors, tub and shower surrounds, or classic trim and mouldings, solid hardwoods featuring new finishes offer water resistance that old-fashioned versions never could. Blends of synthetic resin, plasticizers and other film-forming ingredients bond to form a watertight seal, yet do not peel when wood expands and contracts. And, caring for them is easy.
When considering hardwoods for your bath, think about the size of the space, the natural light that may be available, and any artificial lighting you plan to use. These elements work with the finish on your cabinets to give the room its own personality. Lighter finishes on cabinets, for example, give a small bath a surprising sense of openness, while darker stains help create a room that's classic and elegant.
